The One Club Competition

New Year's Day saw eleven competitors, in varying states of body and mind, including two visitors who had been seen practicing with one club on the previous day, take to the course. One member who has obviously had a trolley from Santa decided he could manage to carry his club much to the surprise of his good lady!

The weather was kind and the on course refreshments excellent, although one competitor forgot his! There was a new course record set 23 on the eighth, unless you know different?

The competition produced a new winner, his first major on the tour, in fact his first win! He is keen to point out that this victory will not change him.

Soup followed by cheese and biscuits were very much appreciated thanks to Mike & Kathryn and John & Barbara.

Result

1. Nigel Smith (20) 38
2. John Weir (13) 38.5
3. Gordon Chalmers (12) 43

A new season kicked off (or should that be teed off?) with the opening fours tournament on Sunday 26th March 2006, on a squally afternoon that made a visit to the dentist an attractive proposition, but the longer play continued, the better the golf and the weather became, and in the end the 18 hardy souls who set out rather reluctantly were rewarded with a hint of what spring on Mull can be at its best.

VP Olive Brown and new captain Gordon Chalmers won the Jim Laverty Trophy with a small but perfectly formed nett 64, and the "Hairy Legs" Trophy went to Dodo MacLean and Alasdair MacLeod, who pipped the other two gents pairings at the post.
