Some i's have to be dotted and some t's crossed before the season finally draws to a close, but the curtain IS coming down now.
Donald Brown Snr won the Navy Cup by 2&1 against regular fours partner John Wilshire. John, who deserves huge credit for keeping our course in superb condition throughout the summer months, especially given the scant resources at his disposal, endured further heartbreak when he lost the " wee MacBrayne " final to Big Mike Campbell in the same week. Standing on the 18th tied on strokes and with a bih, John only had to match MC to lift the trophy, but having scrambled a 4 could only watch as Mike holed a 12-footer for a winning par 3.
In the final postscript to the regular season Ewan MacCrone won the Jubilee Cup with an impressive 38 Stableford points, Alasdair MacLeod defeated John MacPhail in the final of the Navy Cup Plate , and Graham Davidson retained his Brockville Quaich , albeit on a shared basis with Scott MacLean.
Captain Gordon won nothing outright on his own, but still managed to retain the Order of Merit Trophy. Here's to next summer season, for those who last the winter. |
