Old Mull Shield
Tobermory v Glencruitten (Oban)

26th August 2007

Taking a precarious 4½ -1½ lead to Oban always was going to be difficult, so there was little surprise that Oban Captain Sandy Galbraith became the first in nearly 30 years to hoist the trophy aloft at the end of the match. Fortunes turned on two matches which were lost on the last hole, and only Mike Campbell and Gordon Chalmers won their match. Scant consolation for Gordon, who thus becomes the first Tobermory Captain to lose the trophy in its history.

Fun Day 19th August 2007

The Club Fun Day started with the hotly-anticipated Team Speed-Golf event where all available members helped out to play a round under the rules of golf in the fastest possible time. Graham Davidson, with the help of Phil Higson organised placing and tactics which saw the ball(s) go round 18 holes in a remarkable 17 minutes and 2 seconds, making Nigel Smith the winner of the £100 for best guess. The rest of the day was taken up with a friendly competition amongst Gents, Ladies and Juniors, with prizes for most and the club raising a decent total to assist with funding in what has been a difficult season.

MacBrayne Cup & Willie MacAllister Trophy 4/5th August 2007

The MacBrayne Cup weekend at Tobermory Golf Club ended dramatically with a three-way sudden-death playoff between Graham Davidson, Tim Gardiner and Matthew Sloggie all of who tied on 146 after 36 regulation holes. A disastrous double-bogey 6 saw Graham Davidson fall at the first extra hole, and a par four from Gardiner was enough to end Sloggie's challenge and see him lift the trophy.

There was a close finish too in the Willie McAllister Memorial Trophy when Dods MacLean posted a remarkable 5-under net 59 in a spirited defence of the cup he won last year. His total of 130 looked good enough to retain the cup until the last group came home and club captain Gordon Chalmers returned his best score in two years with a net 61 and a total of 129. Mike Campbell claimed third on 136.

MacBrayne Cup Result (Scratch)
1 Gardiner, Tim
76 + 70 = 146
2 Sloggie, Mathew

3 Davidson, Graham R
