| Opening 4's |
30th March 2008 |
The new season commenced with the traditional curtain-raiser, the Opening Fours, for the Jim Laverty Trophy (for gents drawn with a lady or junior partner) and the Hairy Legs (work it out). Grant Williams managed to retain the trophy he won last year in this, his last competition as a junior, playing this year with Ian Wilshire.
Gordon Chalmers retained the Hairy Legs this time in company with Graham Davidson, whose Strata ball lasted all of two minutes before Gordon hacked it into the deep stuff never to be found...no wonder Graham replaced it with an old Titleist for the next shot!

| April Medal |

| Captain v Vice-Captain |
19th April 2008 |
Saturday 19th became the new date for Captain vs. Vice Captain following the medal rearrangement, and with VC John Weir unable to play through injury, and several stalwarts missing due to work and family commitments, the match was played as straight matchplay with 4 head-to-head matches. Skipper Graham's team won, with his own match against Mike Campbell being pivotal, decided as it was on the 17th green. 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 the final score. Davidson running total - three weeks, three trophies! Who could stop him?

| Marie Curie |
20th April 2008 |
On Sunday 20th the GD train derailed when Donald Brown won the Marie Curie from Ian McNaughton and Phil Higson in 2nd and 3rd. One day Mickey will admit that he does actually like Stableford competitions. As long as any can remember he has claimed the opposite, but a look at the record books suggests he does quite well nonetheless. The Ladies winner was once again Olive Brown with 25 points.

| Western Isles Challenge Cup |
26th April 2008 |
Another busy weekend commenced with the Western Isles Challenge Trophy, and in blustery (!?) conditions a turnout of 15 should be regarded as quite healthy. True to form Mike Campbell, when not trailing the field was on the podium. No-one could ever accuse Mike of middle-of-the-road performances- he's either all sugar or all salt. Unfortunately for MPC, young Jamie Cowe returned the winning card to claim the trophy. Ian Wilshire took third spot.

| Captain's Prize |
27th April 2008 |
This year the tournament was played as a Stableford, with bonus points awarded using last year's Bingo Bango Bongo system. For an explanation of how that works, please email the committee for our complimentary 108 page guide to Bingo Bango Bongo, soon to be released on interactive DVD ROM. Or not.
Captain Graham Davidson, ineligible to win his own trophy, was free to play golf and returned a very respectable, handicap reducing 37 points. As for the ordinary mortals, John Weir won the trophy, only to have his joy tempered by Navy Cup opponent Gordon Chalmers going out to 13 and gaining a stroke advantage ahead of their match.
